Mestalla brimming with emotions running high
Relive the emotional events that took place in the run-up to Valencia CF-Real Betis to pay tribute to the victims and those affected by the tragic flash floods
Kevin Gameiro set up Denis Cheryshev for a goal that nearly gave Valencia CF the three points against Lille, and the Frenchman emphasised the importance of taking victory in both of the remaining Champions League home games.
“It was a very difficult match. We managed to go ahead, but we didn’t manage to get the win. We leave here with four points in the group, and now we are going to fight hard at home,” said a determined Gameiro after the final whistle.
“We lacked many things. LOSC Lille pressed us a lot, are very physical and put a lot of pace into the game. This is the Champions League, and details make the difference.”
Gameiro said that the sole focus was on the task at hand, and had been unaware of the scoreline in the other Group H game, between Ajax and Chelsea in Amsterdam.
“We didn’t know about the result in that game. We play to win and we are going to fight to qualify for the knockout stages, right to the end,” he underlined. “Now we have our next two Champions League games at home, and we have to win them. After that, we’ll see what happens.”
